National Pride At Work is affiliated as the newest constituency group of the AFL-CIO (American Federation of Labor & Congress of Industrial Organizations.) The purpose of Pride At Work is to mobilize mutual support between the organized Labor Movement and the LGBT Community around organizing for social and economic justice. We see full equality for LGBT Workers in their workplaces and unions.

Queers for Economic Justice is a progressive non-profit organization committed to promoting economic justice in a context of sexual and gender liberation. Our goal is to challenge and change the systems that create poverty and economic injustice in our communities, and to promote an economic system that embraces sexual and gender diversity. We are committed to the principle that access to social and economic resources is a fundamental right, and we work to create social and economic equity through grassroots organizing, public education, advocacy and research. We do this work because although poor queers have always been a part of both the gay rights and economic justice movements, they have been, and continue to be, largely invisible in both movements. This work will always be informed by the lived experiences and expressed needs of queer people in poverty.

Shirley Q. Liquor is a character created by Charles Knipp. He performs as Shirley in blackface, and emulates the stereotypes of a black "welfare queen." Over the years many organizations and people have spoken out against his performance such as NGLTF, GLAAD, the mayor of Boston - Tom Menino, Jasmyn Cannick, Pam Spaulding of Pam's House Blend, Keith Boykin, and FIERCE NYC.

Shirley Q. Liquor is scheduled to perform at the Russian River Resort in Guerneville, California on June 19th, 2010 - also known as Juneteenth - the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.
