Post-Occupy; Defending Bank Robberies & Other Militant Direct Action

Recently Chris Hedges made ripples through the Left with his article that demonized the (incredibly passive and mild) Blac Block anarchist tactics of direct action. Well, Chris ain't seen nothing yet. The divide between the rich and poor is expanding at an ever increasing rate as the wealthy and upper-middle class sit on-top of the labor of working class and poor people. As a radical Communist queer, I have to ask myself, what types of actions against this 'State' of affairs are useful to the causes of the working class, the poor, the unemployed?

I don't presume to know a set of parameters for people's resistance, but rather would like to 'come out' (early) in defense of certain tactics.

(1) Bank robberies are useful (but very risky) ways for people to resist capitalism. Banks themselves are 'robberies' against the people, and I therefore support any action taken to rob banks, give aid and shelter to bank robbers and their families. Bank robbers of the world (and their supporters), unite!

(2) Kidnapping members of the Financial Elite must be vigorously defended as the people rise up against the tyranny of the '1%.'

(3) Terrorizing, looting, burning and 'occupying' the homes of the wealthy who reside in neighborhoods like Bel Air, Los Angeles, CA and elsewhere is a smart tactic, and may be the proto-resistance to setting up the structures for people's and worker's communes in the mansions of the rich.

(4) Property damage to banks, businesses and other symbols of power are useful bridges to more militant actions.

(5) Sabotage of electrical grids, burning down of new and elite-construction areas (like Ski resorts), and other 'Earth Liberation Front' style tactics are essential to building a militant movement of committed activists who take aim at the material conditions that allow capitalism to function.

This is but a sample of the types of direct action that I completely endorse. I encourage all of my comrades to support a widest diversity of tactics as possible as we confront the bloodied weaponry of capitalism.

The following story shows the tragedy behind the 'Robbery of a Bank' and capitalism.
