What you say on Facebook can hurt...

A couple of weeks ago I saw a tweet from my husband that disturbed me. He was getting upset about a post a coworker had posted about same sex couples raising children. His (the coworker) opinion was that gay people are not fit to raise children because it would confuse the child too much and they would have questions. He also stated that there are a lot of facts that he could bust up with but wouldn't. His wife states later in his post that "it is not fair that the child will be the one who…See More

End of DOMA?

With Obama and the DOJ not defending section 3 of Doma I am wondering how long it will take this country to throw DOMA out completely. My Legal husband Robert and I have already filed our taxes as single since the Fed doesn't allow us to file married. We paid around $2600 more than we should have. Oh well, the government needs our money and their is hope for next year, right? My straight married friends don't really understand what DOMA has done to people like me. They smile and say "I'm sorry"…See More

What is in a word and is it really that important to keep it?

After reading about a poll in Michigan yesterday where people were asked if they would support same sex marriage it was 50.2% against and 38.5% for. Nothing surprising.  But in the same poll they were asked if they would support civil unions with the same legal benefits as marriage while still preserving the word marriage as between a man and a woman it was 55.7%-36.5% in favor.  I have said all along that I do not care what it is called. I just want the legal rights and protection that…See More

DADT almost gone Now it is time for DOMA

First, I hope everyone is having a happy holiday season!Hooray for the repeal of DADT and hopefully it will not take too long to fully have its removal in place.  Next on the agenda should be DOMA but I am not holding my breath.  We gained some ground in Washington last week but the fight is far from being over and won.  It is great that you will be able to be openly gay in the military but in actuality it will only affect a small percentage of the gay population.  DOMA on the other hand…See More

Reminder, December 1st is world AIDS day

December 1st is World AIDS DayThe UN has named this year's theme "Universal Access and Human Rights."Being old enough to remember when it didn't have a name and good friends were getting sick and dying, I have remembered this day since Dec 1, 1988. I helped raise money for the Atlantic City AIDS coalition selling red ribbons on the steps of City Hall. AIDS hasn't gone away and young people today don't realize what it can do to them and are not as careful as they should be. Getting tested once a…See More

What I am thankful for...

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in the USA It is a time to reflect on what we have and to give thanks for life in general. I am thankful for the Iowa supreme court (including the three judges voted out) for having the guts to do what is right and say that it is just to allow same sex couples to get married. It is something that just brought me and Robert even closer. I am also thankful for all the support that has been growing for the anti bullying in our schools. Being gay or questioning whether…See More

An example of how DOMA is affecting me personally.

Today my Husband Robert posted on twitter about his experience at work signing up for his health benefits for next year. He thought the company he worked for allowed him to add me to his coverage like the company I work for does, He went to add me to his aflack coverage and this is what he tweeted:So why is it so hard for us gays to get rights? I tried to get accident insurance from aflack through my work for my husband but bc we are a same sex couple, and my employers health insurance…See More

It is time to say that we are not going to take it anymore!!

I was watching the video of the rock group twisted sister singing their song "we're not going to take it" yesterday and was thinking that it is now time for all LGBT people to take the same stance. McCain is doing what politicians like to do when it comes to DADT and DOMA has no chance in hell of going away any time soon. I am tired of people saying just be patient, it will happen. I think it is time that we as a minority make it happen. Let all the politicians that are against us know that we…See More

If being gay was a religion...

If being gay was a religion, it would be a choice and not something that occurs in nature. AND if being gay was a religion all the people would have the right to fall behind the wall of religions freedom and be able to say what ever they want even if it isn't true or hurts someone because the constitution gives them protection. I believe in the separation of church and state but recently we are seeing it being ignored and miss-used. I think I even read somewhere that someone wanted to have it…See More
