Massachusetts Log Cabin Republicans Back Openly Transphobic Candidate for Governor

On April 20th, the Boston Globe revealed that Republican gubernatorial candidate Charles Baker had “flip-flopped” on civil rights by pledging to veto a bill that would protect basic freedoms of transgender citizens. In an appalling statement defending Baker’s bigotry, Massachusetts Log Cabin Republican president Jesse Ehrenfeld stated that the “great thing” is that Baker supports gay marriage. Essentially, Ehrenfeld is saying that as long as a candidate passes the litmus test of supporting gay…See More

Virginia's Attorney General to Colleges: Remove Sexual Orientation from Your Non-discrimination Policies

Virginia’s Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli recently contacted all public colleges and universities in Virginia and advised them to stop pledging to treat everyone fairly regardless of sexual orientation and/or gender identity. His “legal opinion” was that public universities had acted without legal authority in adding sexual orientation and/or gender identity to their policies. His “advice” was that such language should be rescinded from all University policy (…See More

Jeremy Kidd commented on Mark Daniel Snyder's blog post 'Andrew Sullivan Gays would Rather See GaGa than Commemorate AIDS Victims, HRC Needs to Go!'
"Wow. When I find myself agreeing almost 100% with something coming out of Andrew Sullivan's mouth . . . it really is a wake-up call."

Jeremy Kidd commented on Mark Daniel Snyder's blog post 'Urvashi Vaid: Best speaker at National Equality March'
"Urvashi Vaid is by far one of my favorite contemporary queer activists. She give me chills every time I hear her speak. Thanks so much for sharing this video. Hopefully many who went to March will internalize this call to action."

Who are you? (Creative answers encouraged!)
Displaced southern queer medical student from Virginia now living in Boston and working on a public health graduate degree.
Activism & Interests?
Most of my activism back in Virginia focused on health care-related issues as they intersect with queer people, class and animal rights (not necessarily all three at once). Really interested in getting more involved in Boston-based activism!

Yet another Back-pedal from Obama - This time on Needle Exchanges

Posted on May 18, 2009 at 11:36am 2 Comments

During his campaign, President Obama pledged to support lifting the ban on federal funding for needle exchange programs. Apparently, that pledge has gone by the wayside as his administration left intact budget language prohibiting funding for programs which have been demonstrated to save lives. This is yet another turn of events that makes me less-than-enthusiastic about the "HOPE" of "CHANGE" for the next three and a half years. Sometimes catchy buzz words really are JUST buzz… Continue

Equality Virginia Hires Straight and Completely Inexperienced Man as New CEO

Posted on January 31, 2009 at 7:43pm 3 Comments

Equality Virginia, Virginia’s largest lGbt organization (big on the G, little on the rest), recently hired Jon Blair, a straight man, as the organization’s new Chief Operating Officer. Now I suppose one could argue effectively that a straight person can adequately fill this role, and I might agree . . . in theory. However, based on emails sent by Equality Virginia to its members and personal correspondence with the chair of the EV Board, Mr. Blair seems to have no prior experience working on… Continue
