Between Jan 1, 2006 and 9/30/09 the 7 leading manufacturers of HIV meds netted $159 billion in profits – after paying for all costs of running their business including research and development, investments, paying for raw materials and all production costs, taxes and wages etc. These profits went in the pockets of stockholders, wall street, or into the "retained earnings"  of Merck, Pfizer, Glaxo etc.. who did nothing to earn this wealth except be rich enough to purhase stock. Was it really 1977 that we organized Boston Gay Pride out of my living room? (OMG) We didn't have a lot of banks and corporations bankrolling us then. But what we did have was a lot of passion for the all the struggles and movements of the time. Our grassroots organizations didn't have to go into debt to find the money to pay for the privilege of marching in our own parade.
