Mildred Loving, of the landmark case Loving vs. Virginia passed away earlier this week, just a month shy of her 50th wedding anniversary. Her husband passed away in the mid-1970s, but she never remarried. I think it is appropriate to post here the speech she made a little less than a year ago, on the 40th anniversary of the Loving decision:

Lately I've been thinking a lot about my queer identity. It has always been very important to me to be recognized as queer. Now that I am in a long-term committed relationship, I don't feel as 'invisible' as I used to be. When I was single, it used to really burn me that I was always pegged as a straight girl.
