Good Times

Pain and struggle are good. No one ever learns anything being comfortable and unchallenged. I want to call attention to the many ways and many folk who offered me a good kick in the rear. So many times in life we think “oh isn’t this awful, if only it would end then I’d be happy and could get on with my life”.Wrong. We don’t learn and remember our lessons if everything in our lives is easy, comfortable and nap inducing. Anything that I have mastered after much concerted effort has stayed with…See More

Is Glee too gay ?

First off, I want to say that I love this show. Every scene between Kurt and his dad is kind, hopeful, thoughtful, loving and insightful. If any of us had ever had an adult this supportive and non oppressive things would be quite different. However, I want to address the concept of duality or more appropriately , living with and managing our own contradictions. As a member of several divergent social circles, I understand the hunger for any representation. In gay circles, must everything gay be…See More

The Courage to Change

In this wacky economy, there is a need for self reinvention. In the wild, living organisms adapt and change or die. So many of us refuse to listen to reason and refuse to alter what it is we’re doing simply because we can’t accept the fact that the pickle we have found ourselves in is one of our own creation. What part did any of us play in this current financial crises ? To listen to so many people tell it , none. Often times things occur and we end up looking around and asking ourselves, how…See More

Strong Stuff

When I was ten, Tanya Nelson repeatedly tortured me by jabbing me with a compass. She sat behind me and constantly tormented me along with others for being a sissy. I took the abuse. I learned to tolerate it and even enjoyed figuring out ways to endure the humiliation. I decided that she, like my family of origin and everyone else who did so much harm to a young, precocious child was not going break me. I decided that I would win. My mother refused to take my pleas seriously and I never talked…See More

Uncle Calvin

When I was a little boy, my father’s best friend was a pimp. Uncle Calvin was dapper, charming and always sported the latest fashions. I had no idea what this man did for a living. The only thing I knew was that there were all of these women around him and I couldn’t figure out which one he was married to. I share this tale of my childhood to describe the ability to self invent and the need for adult guidance and supervision if our young people are to successfully navigate the treacherous world…See More

Better is Now

Although I love the concept of the “It gets Better “ campaign, I’m not sure that this is enough. While it is far more than the young gays of my generation received in terms of self esteem and a severe blow to isolation and angst riddled days, the time for change is now. If you are in the throes of feeling alone and unsafe, no one really wants to hear that in five or ten years, things will turn around and you will trump your tormentors with incredible success and world domination. I work with…See More

Profile Information

Who are you? (Creative answers encouraged!)
I a gorgeous, brilliant, compassionate black man. I am a lso an artist/writer/actor/teacher
Activism & Interests?
I believe once people change themselves world change will follow. I would love to teach my solo performance workshop course and provide some serious healing and listening to young folk to allow an exchange of generational information. This will prevent certain mistakes, allow fresh approaches to new problems and expedite the time that is generally spent reinventing the cultural wheel. I would also love to blog for this site. I can be read on frontierspublishing.com under blogosphere.
